Woman seen dumping garbage in a lake in Canada’s Abbotsford fined for $1000, police sergeant says ‘don’t make it a race thing’

A woman was seen littering a lake in Canada in a viral video that sparked major outrage.

The woman who was seen nonchalantly emptying her Dollar store bag into Mill Lake in Abbotford has been fined for $1000 as she was issued two violation tickets. The police said they won’t release the identity of the woman but they confirmed that cops identified the woman and visited her house. The video sparked a major outrage on all social media platforms as commentators blamed her ‘Indian-origin’ for such behavior. The cops did not confirm whether she was Indian or South Asian.The video was taken by two women who, from the other side of the lake, saw the woman trashing the lake. The two women then countered the trashing woman and asked her whether she knew how inappropriate it was to trash the lake that had wildlife. The woman first denied that she littered the lake; but when the other two women told her that they saw her doing it and took a video of it, the woman defiantly asked them to not to speak to her.The video went viral in no time with the community trying to identify the offender.“These incidents understandably generated strong reactions. Our job is to objectively investigate & take action having considered all the relevant information. One of the many things we have learned over years of conducting investigations is that incidents like this are rarely as straightforward as they appear,” Abbottsford Police Sergeant Paul Walker said in a Facebook post.“I also want to address some of the online commentary. While people are entitled to express their frustration about the behaviour captured, racist, discriminatory & hateful comments directed at an individual’s race, ethnicity, or background are unacceptable. Those remarks do nothing to solve the problem & they undermine the values of respect, inclusion & community Abbotsford is known for,” the post added.As the video went viral and the face of the offender was visible, social media users called her ‘usual suspect’ as she looked Indian or South Asian. “Such a shame! People like her disgrace India wherever they go. Why would someone do such a terrible thing to the waterbody and poor ducks??? There are trash cans, and she is not handicapped. She could walk to a trash can or recycle bin. The person should be in jail for loitering,” one wrote.
