The property, which her family purchased in 1987, has changed considerably since Beyonce lived there, long before she became one of the world’s best-known singers. The 4,010-square-foot property stands at 3346 Parkwood Drive in Houston’s Riverside Terrace neighbourhood. According to property details listed by the Houston Association of Realtors (HAR), the house was built in 1935 and has four bedrooms, three-and-a-half bathrooms, a renovated kitchen, a swimming pool, a large walk-in wardrobe and a separate garage apartment. The Houston Chronicle reported that the house received several offers within approximately two weeks of being listed. By April 22, a local buyer had entered into a contract to purchase it.The house was part of Beyonce’s life between the ages of around six and 13. Her family lived there from 1987 until 1994, a period when she was beginning to develop her skills as a performer. It was here that she became involved with Girls Tyme, the group that came before Destiny’s Child.Although the Knowles family moved out more than three decades ago, the property is still cherished by Beyonce’s fans. People regularly stop outside to take photographs, and tour buses visit the street. What Beyonce’s childhood home looks like The property has undergone several renovations since the Knowles family lived there. Much of the work carried out between 2018 and 2026 focused on updating the interiors while keeping some features from the original 1935 construction. The kitchen was completely redesigned and now has a large marble island and Wolf appliances. Upstairs, the main bedroom suite includes an upgraded bathroom with quartz countertops and modern fittings. The suite was also expanded at some point, while an adjoining room was converted into a large walk-in wardrobe with white shelves and a crystal-like chandelier.Previous owners also added a swimming pool, an outdoor summer kitchen and a 600-square-foot garage apartment. The property also has a three-car garage, which opens onto an alley behind the house. Some of the older details remain visible, including decorative ironwork that covers the double entrance doors, while the interior retains its original hardwood flooring and curved staircase. Outside, a circular driveway leads towards the house, with a lawn at the front. Beyonce’s mother on the family home For Beyonce’s mother, Tina Knowles, the property was a place where the family could spend time together. In her 2025 memoir Matriarch, she recalled buying the house after the family had previously lived on Rosedale Street in Houston. She described the Parkwood Drive property as the “perfect, white-brick dream house”. One reason she liked it was that it offered enough room for her niece and her niece’s daughter to live with the family. It has since passed through several owners, with each making changes to the property over the years. Tour bus during the house’s open viewing When the house was listed for sale, Yvonne Bonner-Holley, the Keller Williams Realty agent handling the property, told the Houston Chronicle that fans from different parts of the United States contacted her about the house. The agent said she had to establish which enquiries came from serious prospective buyers. She held only one open house, but the event drew a large crowd. Towards the end, a tour bus arrived carrying fans who wanted to look inside. They were turned away. The property’s owners had previously placed a life-size cutout of Beyonce outside the house, allowing visitors to take photographs. However, they also asked fans to respect the fact that people lived there and that the property was not a museum.Bonner-Holley also said the house also appealed to buyers because of its location. It stands on a tree-lined street with large residential plots and is close to Parkwood Park. Houston neighbourhood where Beyonce grew up The neighbourhood was developed during the 1920s and 1930s and is known for its large houses, several of which were built before the Second World War.During the 1950s, Black families began purchasing properties in Riverside Terrace while facing discriminatory housing practices in other parts of Houston, including River Oaks. By the 1960s, the area had become an important residential neighbourhood for Black professionals and business leaders.Bonner-Holley said some architects who worked on houses in River Oaks also designed homes in Riverside Terrace, occasionally using similar floor plans. Several of those older properties remain standing.
