The police alleged that one incident took place in summer 2024, while four others allegedly occurred on December 3, 2024 An Indian-origin detective sergeant with London’s Metropolitan Police has been charged with five counts of sexual assault, Scotland Yard said.Detective Sergeant Prakash Patel, attached to the Met’s North West Command Unit, is due to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, September 4.The Met said Patel was charged on July 24 following an investigation into allegations involving four women known to him.“DS Patel was charged on Friday, 24 July, with five counts of sexual assault,” the force said. One alleged incident took place on an unspecified date in summer 2024, while the other four allegedly occurred on December 3, 2024.“The charges relate to four women known to DS Patel. They continue to be supported by investigating officers,” the Met added.Patel was arrested on April 24 last year after an investigation was launched by the Central South Command Unit in cooperation with the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards. He was suspended from duty the same day, adding “the charges relate to four women known to DS Patel. They continue to be supported by investigating officers.”Following further enquiries, the case was referred to the Crown Prosecution Service, which authorised the charges.The Met said the investigation was conducted by its professional standards teams and the Central South Command Unit.
