Albany Police Department became a laughing stock when it issued a BOLO notice for a man who picked up $30 from the floor while shopping at Walmart. Sharing a surveillance photo of the man, the police department sought public help in identifying him. Social media made fun of the police department and stood strongly by the unidentified man and said nobody will be snitching about the man even if they know him over $30.“The Albany Police Department would like the public’s assistance with identifying the suspect in the photo. The incident occurred at 2586 N. Slappey Blvd. (Walmart). An individual dropped $30.00 on the ground while shopping. This individual picked up the money and did not turn it in to the employees. Anyone with information that may assist with identifying this individual is asked to contact the Albany Police Department at 229-431-2100,” the department’s original post said.Facebook users asked what exactly the crime of the man was. “I’ll cover the 30.00 leave the old guy alone,” one said. “Imagine finding $30 and thinking it is your lucky day, only need to go home and load up Facebook to find your photo on the police departments page asking for assistance identifying you,” another wrote.Many social media users asked whether it was joke because they could not bring themselves to believe that the police department was ready to use any resource to find $30 and the man behind it.“So when I find pennies and quarters on the ground, who do I turn them in to?” one wrote. “So is my toddler going to get arrested for picking up change he finds too????” a mother thought out loud. “Yall acting like he took it out someone’s pocket or stole it,” one added. No charges will be filed After the police’s BOLO notice went viral, the department provided an update that the man in the photo returned the money to the victim. “The victim initially wished to pursue charges, but after the money was returned, advised that they no longer wished to press charges. No charges will be filed,” the department said triggering reactions from Albany residents whether all other crime cases were solved.
